The narrative of the author turns the 50 years of history described in the book into a fascinating story. I read first "1453" and then "Empires". There are several good books dealing about the Constantinople siege, although not so many about Malta and Lepanto. Although not so many maps describing the locations of the events are included, the text is very descriptive and easy to read.
