Beautiful pastel colored illustrations capture the lovely shells and homes of the snails. We are witness to an example of oral tradition: a younger snail who wishes for a bigger house learns from an older snail, the consequences of building a big house, via the tale of a snail who did indeed build himself a gorgeous and large house and what subsequently happened to him. Later in life, the snail is asked why his house is so small and he begins to relate the tale that had once been told to him. Not a blockbuster, but my boys enjoyed the story and, especially the snail pictures.
