George Orwell died at the age of 46. It is quite surprising that a man who died at that age left such a lot of great works. I don’t think that it is possible to overestimate the importance of his works. Taking into consideration that Sohseki Natsume also died at the age of 49, it seems that in order to leave a lot of great works one does not necessarily live long.
Some people may not agree to his political standpoint, but even such people cannot help admitting how deep and perspicacious his analysis of political systems were. In addition to that, he was one of the greatest stylists in the English language. Anthony Quinton once said, “Orwell seems to me unquestionally the best writer of expository prose in English in this century". He wields an incisive language like a knife and cuts to the truth. His essays are as relevant today as when he wrote them, so I think that anyone who wants to understand the politics in our modern world needs to read Orwell.
