購入者の感想
The 25 short stories in this book deal with the small incidents happening in an imaginary town named Winesburg, Ohio. The town is set as a small country town in America, and the incidents are the ones that are likely to happen in such a trifling town, that is, the ones not dramatic nor sensational. They are just common.
But Sherwood Anderson, with a wonderful gift of accurate observation on people and with a heart-felt consideration about his fellow-creatures, expose how much uncommon lurks in the common. Take “Adventure” as an example. A young girl is seduced by a young man and abandoned. That is a common incident frequently happening all over the world. But Anderson observes closely and sympathetically how much this common incident agonizes her, and nestles to her all the time she suffers, despairs, wails, groans, and finally recovers. It seems as if the author himself is her, or at least her mother. Anyone who reads this will be surprised at how touchingly Anderson
